Local Festivals
Here are some of the notible local festivals.
Bog Week
At the end of May, in Letterfrack in Connemara every year we celebrate Bog Week. It's a week long celebration of our landscape with guided walks, talks and conferences. Some of the country's best traditional music players all converge on this most beautiful of villages for nightly sessions of poetry, music, song and dance.
Environmentalists and experts from all over Europe come to Letterfrack each end of May for Bog Week to give their professional views on what can be done to save and improve the world we live in and protect the beauty which it holds.
Sea Week
Connemara Sea Week here in the village of Letterfrack, is a celebration of our Marine Heritage which takes place over two weekends - an exciting blend of myth, magic and madness.
Conferences held in the local primary school over the bank holiday weekend, with poets, storytellers, painters, scientists and musicians discussing maritime issues.
It will be a weekend of talking and a little walking. There will be pub gigs, concerts, workshops for music and sean nós dancing. There will also be a youth concert.
Vibrant schools programmes are also part of the week, with soccer tournaments for adults and children.
Mussel Festival
A celebration of Killary Mussels in Tullycross, which is only a 5 minute drive from Mountainside B&B in Letterfrack, takes place the last weekend in April on the glorious Renvyle Peninsula in North Connemara. Organisers are set to harvest three tonnes of Killary Mussels for this year's celebrations, which includes music, craic, mussel cooking competitions, children's treasure hunts and set dancing, to name but a few.
All weekend long, there will be a plethora of local traditional musicians. Mussels will be served all day, every day, throughout the weekend.
